Job Description:
The Customer Support Engineer 3 (CSE) is primarily responsible for customer service activities that are associated with updating, troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing highly complex capital equipment at customer sites and trade shows. The Customer Service Engineer represents the company to the customer and assumes accountability for customer satisfaction with service. The CSE assures the operational quality of the system equipment and coordinates actions with customers to minimize down time and may provide assistance to Installation Engineers in resolving problems.

Evaluates, analyzes, diagnoses and troubleshoots technical equipment problems via telephone or at customer site.  Ensures equipment enhances customer production. Repairs and modifies equipment at customer facility. Evaluates equipment to determine type and extend of problem. Repairs involve board problems which can be performed using standard procedures as well as system level problems which have multiple causes and no standard procedures exist. Repair of system level problems are based on CSE's technical knowledge, education and training. Board problems vs. system level problems are split 50/50. In analyzing and diagnosing equipment problems, CSE's may access and determine problem exists in customer process such as chemical leaks or contamination and as a result may recommend shutdown of customer fab due to unsafe conditions. Prepares field service reports on customer support activity and provides documentation to other supporting functions supporting functions on re-occurring problems. Prepares quotes for customers based on labor, travel expenses incurred and parts needed. CSE's use discretion and assist regional admin in preparing quotes based on reason for equipment failure, time to prepare etc. Cross trains and assists other field service engineers as appropriate. Provides guidance and technical assistance to Installation Engineer on installations at customer sites or on installing/dismantling demonstration machines.

The nature of work requires that CSE's work independently; only occasionally requiring guidance from management. CSE's are required to contact management on a daily basis (at least twice each day in a down tool sit.) to report activities. CSE's spend part of their time in the office resolving equipment problems via phone and at least 50% of time at customer site. Contribute to the Capturing, Re-use, Collaboration, and Improvement of knowledge using available systems.

Desired Qualifications:
• Ability to understand and troubleshoot problems in software and electronics, optics, mechanical, electro-mechanical and electro-optical systems.
• Analytical skills
• Knowledge of computer theory, various operating systems and applicable operating system software knowledge, Networking in a Windows, Unix or Novell environment.
• Basic automation functionality on assigned equipment set. Develops technical proficiency in
• Preventive Maintenance (PM) aspects of assigned equipment set.
• PM work can be done with instruction of a manager or senior engineer.
• Must successfully complete ongoing technical training to acquire a thorough knowledge of company equipment, the application of diagnostic techniques and practical application of service aids.
• Microsoft Office proficiency is required.
• Attainment of Certification Level 2 or PM Training. Basic proficiency in systems level repair of a product within a family is required.
• Semiconductor industry process knowledge, required to take the KT class for Introduction to semiconductor processes.
• Good interpersonal/communication skills in understanding customer needs. Ability to work under pressure and stringent timelines since the system is down for service and  may effect customer manufacturing area.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems in software and electronic systems.
• BSEE/BSET or equivalent work experience in supporting complex capital equipment for the semiconductor industry. Typically 2-4 years within the semiconductor industry. Clean room environment experience a plus

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer ( electron optics systems | high/ultra high vacuum systems) (# 109589)

Job Title: Senior mechanical design Engineer

Responsibilities:
1. Develop and document designs for electron optics systems/subsystems from concept to completion and final release to manufacturing.
2. Produce mechanical system/subsystem specifications in order to meet  performance requirements.
3. Design, modify parts or large scale assemblies using ProEngineer.
4. Create detailed drawings using ProEngineer to be used for the manufacture of assemblies and components.
5. Participate/lead design reviews, error budget development, risk assessment and mitigation.
6. Perform structural and thermal FEA using ProMechanica.
7. Evaluate vendor components, develop specifications, analyze/select materials and verify design accuracy.
8. Define test plans, perform testing and write test reports.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Direct experience designing systems/subsystems used for electron optics such as deflectors, objective lenses, vacuum chambers, gate valves, in vacuum positioning, etc.
2. Familiarity with mechanical designs used for electron optics systems, wafer transport and high/ultra high vacuum systems is a must.
3. Ability to develop/conceptualize mechanical system/subsystems based on a set of requirements.
4. Familiarity with materials, manufacturing and cleaning processes used for making components for electron optics systems.
5. Should be able to perform basic structural and thermal FEA using either ProMechanica or SolidWorks Simulation.  The ability to perform complex analysis a plus.
6. Must have experience designing parts and assemblies for use in high and ultra high vacuum and in high voltage environment.
7. Must be able to create 3D part/assembly models and detail drawings for fabrication per best practices using ProE.  Should be able to perform tolerance 8. analysis on designs to ensure budgets are met. Should have a thorough understanding of GD&T standards.
Working knowledge of vibration.
9. Must be able to work with team members and with outside contractors, consultants, and machine shops.

Responsibilities:
The Product Development Engineer plays a central role throughout the different phases of the product life cycle.  This position is part of a team responsible for developing and supporting next generation Optical Critical Dimension  (OCD) metrology systems as well as supporting and improving current systems. The candidate will play a key role in next generation product development, from technology evaluation and selection, specifications development, product validation, verification, transfer to manufacturing, and support of customer ramp. The candidate will maintain ownership of the product through the life cycle and be responsibility for improvement projects and support of field and manufacturing issues. The ideal candidate will demonstrate leadership attributes and be able to lead high performing teams to achieve program objectives in a timely manner.

The engineer must be able to complete the initial diagnosis of any system issue, uncover root cause and devise or drive a team to define solutions for complex problems. Must be able to support the detailed analysis and tradeoffs for the various solutions, develop plan of action, and effectively communicate plan to colleagues to execute. Must have the knowledge and experience to effectively work with experts in optics, electronics, mechanics, software, and algorithms as required to resolve issues. Some travel may be required to support product transition to manufacturing, beta support at customer sites, and for complex cases that require on-site support.

Additional details regarding responsibilities:
Develop concepts and designs for the next generation system. Investigate next generation opto-mechanical technology and analysis.
Resolve inconsistencies between subsystems, conduct trade-off studies, identify high-risk areas, and develop risk mitigation strategies.
Ownership of creation and execution of prototype test plans for complex subsystems. This will involve integration of subsystems, testing against design tolerances and marketing specifications, analyzing test data, and generation of reports.
Drive product or feature introduction. This includes preparation of first draft of system alignment, calibration and troubleshooting diagnostics for existing and new products, training of operations and field personnel, and solving technical issues that may impact production introduction.
Train operations and service and manufacturing employees.
Drive team to resolve system issues at customer site or in manufacturing. Work with engineers at locations around the globe to solve issues escalated to engineering: establish root cause, develop plan of action (POA), guide local teams in execution of POA, and document issues and solutions to improve design and/or procedures so that they may be implemented across the fleet in a standard manner.
Will require some travel (< 25%).

Preferred Qualifications:
1. PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related technical field.
2. Strong background in engineering or the physical sciences with demonstrated analysis and problem solving skills.
3. Hands-on experience constructing and aligning opto-mechanical system is highly desirable.
4. Experience diagnosing and driving solutions to complex problems across whole systems by applying appropriate problem solving techniques.
5. Ability to communicate effectively to all levels of the division, customers, vendors and across cultures.
6. Experience in the semiconductor capital equipment or manufacturing industry.
7. Familiarity with Matlab and JMP.

Responsibilities:
The Laser Engineer will contribute to the development of high-reliability, high-power, deep-UV laser technology for KLA-Tencor’s inspection tools. He/she will prototype laser and nonlinear optics assemblies, thoroughly characterize those prototypes in the lab and use the results provide suggestions to improve the design.

Important tasks include:
1. Set-up and detailed characterization of prototype wavelength converters.
2. Evaluation and qualification of lasers and optical components.
3. Data analysis and statistical analysis
4. Documentation of alignment and test procedures for transfer the manufacturing
5. Careful experimentation is required to ensure that the results are accurate. This Engineer must be able to work without close supervision, complete the assigned tasks, and write up the results.

He/she will interact with the world-class team of optical, mechanical, electrical and software engineers who develop KLA-Tencor’s market leading inspection systems. He/she will work with KLA-Tencor’s manufacturing organization and outside vendors to transfer the technology into production.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Hands on experience in carrying out experiments to thoroughly and accurately characterize high-power lasers and UV wavelength conversion stages.
2. Candidates for this position must have a strong background in the design, set-up and experimental characterization of high-power UV laser, and nonlinear optical wavelength converters.
3. Strong optical alignment, diagnostic, and documentation skills are required. Comprehensive experience with optical diagnostics and test equipment for characterizing the spatial, spectral, and temporal characteristics of laser systems (power meters, optical spectrum analyzers, imaging equipment, spatial beam quality test equipment, etc.).
4. Must be a team player with good written and verbal communication skills.
5. Ph.D. in Physics, Photonics, or equivalent field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.
6. Deep-UV experience is highly desirable. Experience with mode-locked and/or cw  DPSS lasers is desirable.
7. Vendor management experience is a plus. Matlab and LabView skills are a plus.
