Responsibilities:

Surfscan-ADE division of KLA-Tencor is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join its team in Milpitas, California.  The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and sustaining KLA-Tencor state-of-the-art wafer geometry and surface nano-topography products.

The individual will be Working in an engineering team of scientists, systems, mechanical, and software engineers to develop the next generation wafer geometry metrology products as well as provide continuous improvement effort on our existing products. Define concept, design, analyze, and detail precision mechanisms, opto-mechanical subsystems, electronic packaging, and enclosure/frames. Prepare and conduct design reviews per company guidelines and product development processes. Build and troubleshoot prototypes.

Preferred Qualifications:

1.Masters or Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or closely related fields.

2.Minimum 3 years experience through research activities or coop/internships.

3.Thorough understanding of basics of several or all of the following topics: strength of materials, vibrations, dynamics, mechanisms, fluid dynamics, and heat transfer. 

4.Capable of demonstrating knowledge in fundamentals of mechanical engineering (free-body diagrams, classical stress calculations, conduction, convection). 

5.Familiarity with popular 3-D modeling tools, such as SolidWorks or ProEngineer. 

6.Experience in 2d drafting programs such AutoCAD and Visio. 

7.Familiar with several or all of the following mechanical manufacturing processes including machining, sheet metal fabrication, welding fabrication and molding/castings. 

8.Strong mechanical prototyping and tinkering/debugging skills. Experience in basic electrical engineering and cabling documentation.

Familiar with finite-element methods for stress. Good presentation and technical writing skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for defining new products within the product lifecycle process including defining requirements, deciding the technology required, setting priorities for the development team, selecting and working with test partners and managing product launches. In particular this position relates to strong leadership across differing functional groups and effective communication with executive management will be key elements to success in this role.

The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the semiconductor manufacturing process and the importance of inspection tools and techniques in improving process control. The candidate will likely have worked in a wafer fab environment. More recently the candidate will have direct product marketing experience or application development experience, probably working for a semi equipment company or other high tech operation.
Preferred Qualifications:
5-10 years experience in semiconductor industry, direct wafer fab experience is considered an advantage.
Direct product marketing experience in a semiconductor or related industry is required.
MBA is considered an advantage but not essential to the position.

3) Focus on Account Management and customer satisfaction. CSE will avoid creating basic customer issues.

5) Repairs of system level problems are based on CSE's technical knowledge, education and training.

7) Conducts customer orientation and technical training on all aspects of equipment maintenance support for user applications.

9) Prepares quotes for customers based on labor, travel expenses incurred and parts needed. CSE's use discretion and assist regional admin in preparing quotes based on reason for equipment failure, time to prepare etc.
10) Cross trains and assists other field service engineers as appropriate. Provides guidance and technical assistance to Installation Engineer on installations at customer sites or on installing/dismantling demonstration machines.  Also provides guidance to less senior CSE's.
